Company - history
In the end of the thirties Max E. Russenberger had his first contact with materials testing technology. All areas of technology fascinated the young engineer, so that it was not surprising that he was successful in many developments with unconventional ideas. Later he became senior chief engineer at the testing machine company Alfred J. Amsler & Co., where he designed the first resonant testing technology which earned him worldwide tribute. In 1964 Max E. Russenberger founded his own business. His particular aim in the new company was to design and build dynamic materials testing systems. The main product line was the high frequency resonant pulsator or, in other words, resonant testing machines. In a later stage Erwin Müller, also a former Amsler employee, joined the company as a partner. RUMUL is the result of an abbreviation of these two names. With his exceptionally creative talent the company’s founder developed an entirely new concept; the resonsant testing machine.

In 1978 Roland Berchtold took over the company. During this period RUMUL was changed from a private company into a limited company and became RUSSENBERGER PRÜFMASCHINEN AG, but the shortened form RUMUL is still in use today. New spring-mass-arrangements were developed, which enabled further applications for the smallest as well as the biggest machines. A further development was the incorporation of computer technology in the field of resonant testing.
In 1989 the company moved into a new and larger Company building in Neuhausen am Rheinfall.
In 1995 Jürg Berchtold joined the company after his engineering studies and numerous educational stays abroad. He was in charge of the development of control systems and software until 2008, when he took up the operative management.
2008 Roland Berchtold gave up the operative management to his son Jürg Berchtold but remains available for individual tasks.
